Class Description

This class will provide you with tools and resources to have successful estimates on construction projects.

Good estimating skills will allow you to win more contracts.

In this class, business owners can expect to learn the following:

  • How to assess bidding opportunities
  • Fundamentals of an Estimate
  • Bidding Strategies
  • How to track costs for future estimates

Class Level

This is an advanced level class: Advanced level firms have an established back office and sales cycle experience. You have an established number of client relationships, years of experience and are looking to take your business to the next level by diversifying into new lines of business or strengthening management capabilities.

Instructor(s): Ralph Salamie, Kiewit P.E./Senior Manager and Kent Boden, Kiewit Operations Manager

Ralph Salamie is a Project Engineer and Senior Manager for Kiewit. His 41-year career includes construction of infrastructure projects across North America, including finding and evaluating the right projects to bid, producing winning estimates, and constructing safe and profitable projects.

Kent Boden has been with Kiewit for 30 years and is currently managing Kiewit’s structural and marine pursuits based out of Vancouver, WA. Kent’s background includes vast operational experience on large infrastructure projects including the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Cypress “E” expressway, I-15 Corridor Reconstruction, Garden Grove Interchange, and many others. Kent is active within the construction industry throughout the Pacific Northwest and contributes to many organizations, such as being a member of the Oregon State University Civil Advisory Board, a board member of the Oregon State Construction Engineering Foundation, and a member of both AACE international and the Association of General Contractors.
